As spring break approaches, travelers gearing up for vacation may also want to ensure they pack a lot of patience.
According to recent guidance from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), this year’s spring break season is expected to be one of the busiest yet, with a projected six percent increase in passenger screenings compared to last year.
“TSA screened a record number of passengers in 2023, and we expect that trend to continue this year,” stated David Pekoske, the TSA’s Administrator.
Busiest travel days and top destinations
For those navigating airports during the spring break rush, the TSA has identified the peak travel period as between March 7 and March 25.
According to data from booking site Trivago shared with Travel + Leisure, top spring break destinations include favorites like Las Vegas, New York, Orlando, Cancun, and London.
Additionally, Fort Lauderdale has seen a notable surge in popularity as a spring break destination. Bookings have increased by a significant 45.6 percent compared to 2023.
Travelers encouraged to adhere to all protocols and regulations
In light of the expected increase in travelers, the TSA emphasizes the importance of following safety and security protocols.
And if you are a foreign traveler visiting the United States, that also includes ensuring you have all your travel and immigration requirements in order.
For international travelers from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries, the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is pivotal in streamlining entry processes.
Foreign visitors from VWP countries are encouraged to complete the ESTA application online before embarking on their journeys.
