Brightline, the prominent high-speed rail company, has commenced field investigation work in southern California as a crucial step towards developing a high-speed rail corridor connecting the state with Las Vegas.
The Brightline West project, a significant infrastructure initiative, is set to enhance connectivity between Sin City and the Los Angeles area with an all-electric rail service covering a distance of 218 miles at speeds of up to 200 mph.
Advancing Design through Field Work
According to the company’s announcement on Tuesday, this phase of the project involves extensive fieldwork along Interstate 15 (I-15) and is scheduled from January 23 to January 26.
The work follows a preliminary field investigation that began in Nevada earlier this month.
Brightline West emphasized that the current fieldwork is a critical step in advancing the final stages of design, paving the way for the groundbreaking of the high-speed rail project.
It is expected that the project will be completed within four years.
Scope of Field Investigation
The field investigation includes geotechnical borings and samplings, utility potholing, and land surveying.
Most of the work will be conducted during the day to minimize disruption to traffic, with some nighttime hours allotted for specific tasks.
The corridors under scrutiny during this phase of the project include I-15 from Primm to Nipton Road, I-15 from Mountain Pass to Minneola Road, and I-15 from Yermo to I-15/Hwy 58.

Brightline West is part of a broader investment by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which has allocated $8.2 billion in funding for key rail projects nationwide.
The DOT’s investment encompasses a new high-speed rail service connecting Dallas and Houston, a fresh route connecting Fort Collins and Pueblo in Colorado, and more.
